One of the 82 Eire signs built by the Coastal Watch from 1939 onwards to show allied and enemy aircraft and shipping that they were approaching a neutral country. Baltimore was number 29 .These stones have been recently whitewashed and are fairly easy to spot, lying just below Spain Signal Tower. The lookout camp used by the watching crew is now in ruins close to the tower.
It's very hard to get a clear view of these stones for they were of course designed to be seen either from the ground or out at sea. These ones, recently whitewashed stand out very cleary amidst the heather and gorse. A wonderful remote and exhilarating spot - well worth going down towards the big cllffs near the sea's edge.
